Review policy

Who can review, how we check reviews before they are published, and what businesses can and cannot do.

Who can write a review

Anyone who has dealt with a supplier, show or venue listed on Exhibition UK, for example as an exhibitor, event organiser, buyer or visitor, can review it. You need a free account with a confirmed email address, and you can write one review of each listing.

You cannot review a business if you:

  • own it, work for it or are related to someone who does
  • compete with it or work for a competitor
  • manage its listing on Exhibition UK
  • are part of the Exhibition UK team

Our own staff do not write reviews of any business, including businesses connected to us.

Fake and incentivised reviews are not allowed

Every review must describe your own genuine experience. Do not write a review in return for money, a discount, a gift, a prize draw entry or any other benefit. We do not offer incentives for reviews and we do not publish reviews that were incentivised.

Businesses must not write, buy or commission reviews of themselves or of competitors, or ask people to review only if they had a good experience. We remove fake reviews. We may close the accounts involved, refuse further reviews of the business, and add a note to its listing.

How we check reviews

Every review is held for an editor before it is published. Before we see it:

  • the reviewer confirms their email address
  • the reviewer declares that the review is genuine and that they have no connection to the business
  • automated checks screen out spam and repeated submissions

An editor then reads the review and checks for signs that it is not genuine, such as several reviews from one connection or account. We may ask the reviewer for evidence of their experience, such as a booking, an invoice or a stand confirmation. We usually decide within two working days.

What we publish

We publish negative reviews as well as positive ones. We never reject or hide a review because it is critical or because the business asks us to, and paying for a membership on Exhibition UK has no effect on reviews. We do not publish a review that:

  • not based on a genuine experience
  • written by someone connected to the business or a competitor
  • written in return for an incentive
  • not about an experience with this business
  • contains personal information
  • offensive, defamatory or unlawful content
  • duplicate of another review
  • spam or advertising

If we do not publish a review, we email the reviewer the reason, and they can write it again.

How reviews are shown

Reviews appear newest first, and you can sort them by highest or lowest rating. The average rating counts every published review equally. Each review shows the name the reviewer chose, how they used the business and, if they gave it, when. Their email address is never shown.

When we order directory lists, reviews count towards a listing's quality score through a weighted average. How listings are ordered

Replies and reports from businesses

The verified owner of a claimed listing can post one public reply to each review. Businesses cannot edit or delete reviews. They can report a review that breaks this policy. A reported review stays published while we check it, and we remove it only if it breaks the policy.

Report a review or remove your own

If you think a review breaks this policy, or you want your own review removed, contact us with a link to the listing. We review these checks regularly and update this policy when we change them.
