If you want a custom exhibition stand designed and built for your next trade show in the UK, Solutions2, Nimlok and Equinox Group are the strongest exhibition stand builders we list. Each designs and builds in its own UK workshop, has decades of show work behind it and publishes trade credentials you can check. GH Display is the pick for a stand you will reuse for years, and Expositionists and Marsden Exhibitions are the most open about price.

Below we compare 12 UK exhibition stand contractors on their workshop and team, the work they have built, the credentials they publish, reuse and storage, and what they charge where they say. You also get 13 more stand builders worth a look by region, published costs per square metre and the checks to make before you sign.

The best UK exhibition stand builder for each kind of exhibitor

The right contractor depends mostly on the size of your stand, how many trade shows you do and whether you want to own it. These are our picks for the most common situations.

  • Large custom stands at major UK shows: Solutions2, a 40-strong production team that delivered more than 5,000 m² of stands at Motorcycle Live 2025.
  • A bespoke look without buying the whole stand: Nimlok, whose Bespoke Hire stands are built mostly from hired framework.
  • Big, technical or international builds: Equinox Group, with 285 of its 730 projects outside the UK.
  • A stand you will reuse for years: GH Display, from a 30,000 sq ft workshop near Peterborough.
  • Reusable beMatrix and double deck stands: Symbiosis, one of five beMaster Plus builders in Europe.
  • Clear prices per square metre and free storage: Expositionists, from £199 per m² for a modular custom stand.
  • Published price bands and lead times: Marsden Exhibitions, with modular stands from £4,000 and bespoke from £15,000.
  • Watching your stand being made in the Midlands: Icon Exhibitions, which hand-builds in a 20,000 sq ft Cannock workshop.
  • A programme of shows across several countries: Skyline Whitespace or MEMS International.

UK exhibition stand design and build companies compared at a glance

All 12 design and build stands themselves and offer storage between shows. The differences are scale, how much they will hire rather than sell you, and whether they publish prices.

How we compared these exhibition stand builders

We read each stand builder’s own website on 5 November 2026, and checked company records at Companies House where the site left the trading company unclear. Every contractor on this page has a listing on Exhibition UK, and we only included firms with a UK office and a UK workshop that design and build stands themselves. We left out overseas companies that market UK landing pages without a UK base, and firms that mainly print graphics or sell portable displays.

We ranked them on six things:

  • its own design team and a UK workshop you can visit
  • a track record you can check: years trading, named clients, shows and projects per year
  • trade credentials they publish, such as ESSA accreditation, ISO standards and named awards
  • whether you can reuse, hire or store the stand between shows
  • published prices, cost guides and lead times
  • the range of stand sizes and countries they cover

Credentials and a checkable track record carry the most weight, because you are trusting a contractor with your stand, your budget and your build-up days. Nobody paid to be included or for their position. We have not commissioned a stand from these companies, so this is a comparison of what each one publishes, not a test of their work.

1. Solutions2

Solutions2 designs and builds custom stands and feature areas from its workshop at Minworth, Sutton Coldfield, where stands are built and tested before they go to the show. It was founded in 2001 and has a 40-strong production team. You can check its record at the shows it returns to: it has built Screwfix Live since 2014, has been the motorcycle industry association’s preferred supplier at Motorcycle Live for 16 years and delivered more than 5,000 m² there in 2025, mostly from stock or reusable parts. It built a 196 m² reusable, wheelchair-accessible feature for the RHS at Chelsea Flower Show 2025.

It holds ESSA Tier 5 sustainability accreditation, the association’s highest, is an ESSA and IFES member and was named AEO Stand Supplier of the Year in 2019. Its Reuse with S2 approach rebuilds the same components for different stand sizes across your show calendar.

Best for: brands with a recurring UK show calendar who want a big stand built to be reused. See the Solutions2 listing.

2. Nimlok

Nimlok has traded since 1970 and says about 100 people work at Nimlok House, its 55,000 sq ft headquarters in Wellingborough. Its UK operation produces at least 450 projects a year, and design, fabrication, printing, AV and installation stay in-house. That scale means you deal with one company from a portable display to a large island stand.

Its Bespoke Hire service is the reason it ranks this high for most exhibitors. On average about 80% of the stand is hired aluminium framework, lighting and features, with custom graphics and woodwork added, which can be stored at its site between shows. You get a stand that looks one-off without paying to own the whole structure, and Nimlok says clients moving from a traditional build often get a new design for less than refurbishing their old one.

Best for: a bespoke-looking stand at hire cost, from one firm that can also supply your smaller displays. See the Nimlok listing.

3. Equinox Group

Equinox started in a small Leeds workshop in 1983 and went international in 1996. It now has 74 people, including designers, architects and fabricators, and says it has completed 730 projects, 285 of them outside the UK. It is ISO 14001 certified.

Its published projects lean to large and technical builds: a 960 m² stand for Digitain at ICE Barcelona 2026, a 4.7 m certified aluminium pod for Helsing at DSEI 2025 at Excel London, and a two-storey chalet made from sixteen containers for Helsing at ILA Berlin 2026. Closer to home it built an 8m x 8m stand for Munich Re and HSB at the BIBA Conference at Manchester Central. It replies to enquiries within one working day.

Best for: defence, aerospace, gaming and finance exhibitors who need large or engineered builds in the UK and abroad. See the Equinox Group listing.

4. GH Display

GH Display is a family-run contractor that has built stands since 1976. Its two-acre site near Peterborough includes a 30,000 square foot workshop and print facility, so design, print, manufacture, installation and storage are handled by its own people.

It builds its bespoke stands largely from its own hire components, refurbished before each show, and says a stand can be reused for up to ten years and reconfigured for different sizes. You can hire, buy or take a mix of both, and between shows it stores, checks, cleans and repairs your stand. It holds ESSA’s highest sustainability level, Tier 5, and FESPA Waste Management Accreditation, and names Spring Fair and Bett among the shows where it is a preferred stand supplier.

Best for: a custom stand you plan to own and use for many years. See the GH Display listing.

5. Symbiosis

Symbiosis has designed and built stands since 2003, with a head office in London and workshops just outside Andover, Hampshire. It holds beMaster Plus status with beMatrix, which it says puts it among five builders in Europe at that level, and it keeps enough beMatrix and LED wall stock to hire it to other contractors. It cuts and prints its own graphics and builds double deck stands.

It has ESSA Health and Safety accreditation, and every stand it built at the Speciality and Fine Food Fair 2025 earned Better Stands Gold. It has been Clarion Gaming’s preferred stand supplier since 2011 and is a recommended contractor for ICE Barcelona, and it has a New York office for US shows.

Best for: a reusable beMatrix or double deck stand, especially for gaming and tech brands. See the Symbiosis listing.

6. Expositionists

Expositionists, which trades as Expo, has supplied modular and purpose-built stands since 1990 from Welwyn Garden City, and says it has delivered more than 1,000 bespoke stands. Its pricing is the most open of the contractors we compared. Modular custom stands start at £199 per m² and bespoke stands at £299 per m². A 12 to 20 m² custom stand costs £5,000 to £15,000 for the first show, and later shows about 30 to 40% of that.

It also publishes lead times: at least four weeks from brief to show for a modular stand, six to eight weeks with a new structure and about eight weeks for a bespoke build. It stores your stand free between events and is ESSA accredited. Most of its recent case studies are at Excel London, including Black Hat Europe, Data Centre World and London Packaging Week.

Best for: exhibitors who want to budget from published prices and reuse the stand. See the Expositionists listing.

7. Marsden Exhibitions

Marsden Exhibitions was established in 2003 in Loughborough and keeps design, a joinery workshop, printing, transport and building under one roof, with 22 people on its team page. It publishes a cost guide: shell scheme upgrades from £500 to £3,000, modular stands from £4,000 to £15,000 and bespoke stands from £15,000. Its modular stands work out at about £250 to £400 per m², and complex bespoke builds at £900 per m² or more.

It says the ideal time for a bespoke stand is 12 to 24 weeks, depending on size. Its modular stands use the T3 frame with magnetic graphics you can swap, it won Better Stands Gold in 2025 and it is the official stand builder for eight Easyfairs UK shows. It also has its own build teams in the US and Canada.

Best for: exhibitors who want price bands before they brief, from modular to bespoke. See the Marsden Exhibitions listing.

8. Icon Exhibitions

Icon Exhibitions has built stands since 1995 and hand-builds everything in a 20,000 sq ft workshop in Cannock, Staffordshire, and builds for shows at the NEC and further afield. You are welcome to inspect your stand at any stage, and its team page names 18 people, from designers and a CNC operator to four project managers and a health and safety officer.

It has the most detailed sustainability record of the Midlands builders we compared: ISO 14001 certification, a 61% cut in its CO2 emissions and recycled stand carpet and metals. It shows ESSA’s accredited member badge. Its work ranges from 10 m² to 1,000 m², with budgets from £1,000 to more than £100,000, and includes a 180 m² BAE Systems stand in Hamburg and a stand with 6 m graphic walls for Westland at GLEE.

Best for: Midlands exhibitors who want to see their stand being made. See the Icon Exhibitions listing.

9. Skyline Whitespace

Skyline Whitespace is a London contractor that began as the UK partner of Skyline, the US modular system maker, and has worked with Aluvision since 2014. Since 2024 it has been part of the Creaplan Group, which gives you one contractor with bases in the UK, Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain, North America and the Middle East.

It plans stands around each venue’s rules, floor plans and ceiling heights so one design can travel to several events. It holds ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 and has won Best Supplier to Exhibitors at the Exhibition News Awards three times. Its published work includes stands for Riyadh Air at World Travel Market, Grohe and Mastercard.

Best for: a stand programme run across several countries by one team. See the Skyline Whitespace listing.

10. MEMS International

MEMS International has been an exhibition specialist since 1987 and manufactures in its own workshop in Chessington, Surrey, where it also prints its graphics. It is an official Octanorm service partner, so it can mix custom-built parts with Octanorm system stands and rework Octanorm kit you already own, even if another builder supplied it. A custom stand typically takes six to 12 weeks from concept to delivery.

It says it has delivered stands in more than 160 cities, and its clients include Bechtel at Gastech in Houston, Singapore and Milan, and American Express Global Business Travel in London and the US. It is a member of ESSA and IFES, and publishes its sustainability and procurement policies.

Best for: corporate and energy exhibitors with shows in the UK and overseas. See the MEMS International listing.

11. Access Displays

Access Displays was established in 1990 and works from Royal Wootton Bassett, near Swindon. It averages 400 projects a year and says it has won more than 80 best stand awards. It builds custom, modular, double deck and gantry stands.

Where it stands out is hire. You can choose from beMatrix, Aluvision, T3 Airframe, Linx and Linear frames, plus truss systems that suit outdoor county and agricultural shows, and book stands short or long term in the UK and Europe. One project manager handles your stand from design to the venue.

Best for: exhibitors who want to hire, with the widest choice of systems. See the Access Displays listing.

12. CXGlobal

CXGlobal is a family-run builder founded in 2008 that makes everything in its own workshop in Watlington, Oxfordshire, with CNC machines and plasma cutters. It can pre-build your stand in the workshop so you see it before the show, and some of its staff have been with it for 16 years.

Through CXModular you can also hire or buy beMatrix stands with no long-term commitment, so the same team handles your bespoke and modular stands and stores them in between. Its Technetix stand at Network X earned Better Stands Gold, it reuses timber and recycles carpet, and it was a finalist at the Exhibition News Supplier Awards in 2024.

Best for: exhibitors in the South and Midlands who want to inspect a pre-built stand and switch between bespoke and hired modular. See the CXGlobal listing.

Other bespoke exhibition stand specialists worth a look

These builders also design and build stands in their own UK workshops and are listed on Exhibition UK. They did not make our top 12, usually because they publish less about their credentials or track record, but several are the better fit for a particular region, budget or type of show.

What custom exhibition stands cost in the UK

From the prices UK stand builders publish, a modular custom stand starts at about £199 to £400 per m², a bespoke stand at about £299 per m², and complex bespoke builds at £900 per m² or more. For a typical 12 to 20 m² custom stand, Expositionists quotes £5,000 to £15,000 for the first show, and Marsden puts bespoke stands at £15,000 and up.

Three things move the price most:

  • Size and open sides. Price per m² falls on bigger stands, but island and double deck stands need more structure, lighting and approvals.
  • Reuse. If the builder reuses your stand, later shows cost far less. Expositionists puts repeat shows at about 30 to 40% of the first.
  • Hire or own. Hiring the frame, as with Nimlok’s Bespoke Hire or Stand 4’s £375 per m² rate, cuts the upfront cost and leaves nothing to store.

Expert advice from most builders on this page is free at the design stage, so get two or three quotes before you commit. Space rental, venue services and travel come on top of the stand. Our guide to building an exhibition budget covers those.

Bespoke or modular exhibition stands, which suits your brand?

Custom exhibition stands make sense when your space is large, your brand needs a stand nobody else has or you need structures like a double deck. Choose modular when you exhibit several times a year at different stand sizes, because the frame is reconfigured and only the graphics change. Hire when you do one or two shows a year and have nowhere to store a stand.

Many of the contractors above mix the three, building custom joinery onto a hired or reusable frame. If you only need a shell scheme upgrade or a stand you put up yourself, a kit is usually better value: see our guide to the best exhibition stand suppliers in the UK for stands you can buy, and shell scheme or space only for which type of stand your booking needs.

How to choose a stand builder for your next show, from concept to installation

Shortlist three builders who work at your venue, send them all the same brief and compare like with like. A professional contractor will be happy to answer every one of these checks, and the answers separate a reliable partner from a risky one.

  • Visit or video the workshop. A builder that makes stands in its own UK workshop controls quality and timing. Several firms above invite you in.
  • Check credentials yourself. ESSA accreditation, ISO 9001 or 14001 and named awards can all be checked with the body that gave them.
  • Ask for stands at your venue and size. Experience at your hall matters for rigging, floor loading and access.
  • Get an itemised quote. It should cover design, graphics, build, delivery, installation, dismantling, storage and any venue charges.
  • Ask what you own. With bespoke hire you often keep the graphics but not the frame.
  • Ask who handles logistics. Delivery to the hall, build-up slots, dismantling and return to storage should all sit with one project manager.
  • Agree who handles approvals. Space-only and double deck stands need drawings and risk assessments approved by the organiser, so check the deadlines in your exhibitor manual.

Our guide to briefing a stand builder has a checklist for the brief itself, and planning stand delivery and installation covers build-up slots and access.

Questions exhibitors ask about stand builders

Who are the best exhibition stand builders in the UK?

In our comparison, Solutions2, Nimlok and Equinox Group came out strongest for exhibition stand design and build, followed by GH Display, Symbiosis and Expositionists. All six design and build in their own UK workshops and publish credentials you can check.

What is the difference between an exhibition stand builder and a stand designer?

Exhibition stand design is the concept, 3D visuals and technical drawings, while a stand builder or contractor makes and installs the stand (or booth, as it is called at US trade shows). Every contractor on this page does both, so one company is responsible from your brief to the last day of the show.

How far ahead should I book an exhibition stand contractor?

For a bespoke stand, allow about 12 weeks, and up to 24 weeks for a large build. Expositionists needs at least four weeks for a modular stand and MEMS International quotes six to 12 weeks for custom stands.

Can I reuse a custom exhibition stand?

Yes, if you ask for it in the brief. GH Display says its bespoke stands can be reused for up to ten years, and most builders here will store your stand and rebuild it for a different space.

Which exhibition stand builders work at the NEC Birmingham?

Sovereign Exhibitions says it is ten minutes from the NEC, and Solutions2 in Sutton Coldfield and Icon Exhibitions in Cannock are also Midlands builders. Nimlok, Expositionists and Marsden Exhibitions all show stands they have built at NEC shows, Marsden as the official stand build partner for Advanced Engineering.
